Year 1

Keep in touch with us! If you have questions about homework, concerns about others or just need to talk to someone, we'd love to hear from you on year1@trentyoungs.dsat.org.uk (note the new email address!!)

If you’re remaining at home, I understand that it may seem slightly challenging at the moment balancing both work and home schooling and I want you to know that I am here to help and support you in any way that I can. Obviously, in an ideal world, I would love for the children to complete all of the tasks that have been set but I understand that this is not always workable or possible. As a basic requirement, I would ask that the children try to complete all of the Maths and English activities. For the topic activities, the children can pick and choose which activities they complete. Obviously, the more activities that they complete the better, but I don’t want you to feel pressured at home to get these completed if time or work constraints don’t allow for it one week.

Bonjour la classe!

For French we are going to find out about a very famous event that takes place tomorrow in France.  Le 14 juillet-Fête Nationale, July 14th – National Holiday in France is a bank holiday and normally a day of national celebration with parades, fly pasts, parties and lots of gatherings for special meals and fireworks.  This year it will be very different as the crowds are not allowed to gather and watch all the events.  But it will be broadcast on the television.  So there are 3 video clips, a powerpoint and a drawing activity to do. The video clips are in the Video Centre on the school website. Go to FRENCH: le 14 juillet – Bastille Day: watch the 2020 Parade du 14 juillet, singing La Marseillaise, the French national anthem; 2019 Fireworks, Eiffel Tower, Paris and why not try to Draw the Eiffel Tower, add a few fireworks.

If you have had a birthday Joyeux Anniversaire à toi.  Bonnes vacances - have a great summer holidays.  I look forward to seeing you in September when you will be Year 1s.

Bon courage,  Miss Ferguson

PS Don’t forget the French clips for you in the Video Resource Centre.  Go to Chidren, select Video Resource Centre and find the FRENCH: le 14 juillet – Bastille Day and FRENCH: R/Y1/Y2 video clips.

For French we have started to learn about the most famous bike race in the world, Le Tour de France.  We have looked at the different vélos – bikes that riders need to ride on the flat, up hills, up mountains and in a time trial, against the clock.  Use the video clip and powerpoint to show you the different maillotscycling jerseys that riders wear.  There is an activity to create your own maillotYou will see an explanation of the different maillotscycling jerseys in “Guide to Le Tour de France” which is also in the * Video Centre on the school website and it will help you find out all about this exciting bike race. The video clip “2019 Stage 19 Le Tour de France” shows you action from last year’s race. Need some more learning?  Try the wordsearch, read the French words and find them in the wordsearch. For French we are going to continue our transport learning.  There is the song, a video clip, a game and a powerpoint with the new words and sound clips.  Your activity this time is to have a go at making a new song.  All you need to do is to take out à pied, à vélo and en auto and choose any of your new transport words instead.  Have a go at Kim's Game, spot the missing word.

Bonjour la classe,

Ça va? How are you?

I hope you are keeping your French up.  This time we are continuing to learn about travelling and transport.  I hope that you have enjoyed this new song: Aller à l’école. The powerpoint has lots of pictures and sounds to help you learn the song, remember to include your own actions to help your learning, just like we do for the Bonjour Song.  You have also started to find out about French verbs. The song title, Aller à l’école, means Going to school and so the verb “aller” means to go. Your next step is to find out about new types of transport.  Look at the powerpoint and click on each sound clip to find out how to say the noun in French.  Watch the video clip, wave when you see the words you are learning.  Lastly, you can even have a go at learning a new question in French: Qu’est-ce que c’est? What is it?  Your activity is to fill in the gaps with the new words you have learnt today.

Enjoy this learning.

Bon courage,                  Madame Ferguson

PS Don’t forget all the French clips for you in the Video Centre.  Go to HOME LEARNING, go right down to the bottom and select Video Centre and find the Year R/Y1/Y2 video clips.

Bonjour la classe,

Ça va? How are you?

I hope you are keeping your French up.  This time we are continuing to learn about travelling and transport.  The first thing you are going to do is to recap this new song: Aller à l’école. The powerpoint has lots of pictures and sounds to help you learn the song, remember to include your own actions to help your learning, just like we do for the Bonjour Song.

The title, Aller à l’école, means Going to school.  The verb “aller” means to go and this verb is the focus of today’s learning.  There is a video clip to introduce you to the verb “aller” and how to use it in the present tense. Also, see if you can learn where else you will travel to in the song.  Enjoy this learning.

Bon courage,                  Madame Ferguson
