Closure of School in Bad Weather

In the event that it is necessary to close the school due to extremely bad weather, the following procedures will be used to inform you of the decision.

Closure of the school before the children have arrived for the day

Should you wake up to find that snow has fallen overnight, please check the school website, as this will be the first place where notification of the closure will be posted.

Alternatively, you can listen to local radio stations, or check http://mapping.dorsetforyou.com/closedservices.

Phone calls to individual parents will not be made if the decision has been taken to close the school before the children are due to arrive. Notification will appear on the school’s website by 07:00.

Closure of the school during the school day

In the event that the school has to close during the school day and we need to contact parents, we will send a text message and an email. We will also update our school website, so if the weather does take a turn for the worse, please check your phones!  Due to the GDPR regulations, we are not be able to run a telephone tree. If you would like us to consider alternative arrangements for notification, for example if you are not allowed your phone with you during working hours, then please contact the office.

The decision to close the school will not be taken lightly, and only where there is concern for the safety of the pupils and staff travelling in adverse conditions.

Closure of the school and remote learning

The addition of remote learning to our tools for teaching could potentially make a real ‘snow day’ a thing of the past! However, going out to play in the snow can be a magical experience, and we would hate to deprive you and your child of the chance to make those memories together if that is what you would like to do.  Teachers will add instructions to Teams when they find out that the school is closed, directing your child to the written learning that should be done that day, the amount of which will be reduced, allowing you and your child the flexibility to do that learning later when the snow has melted! We hope that this will provide an acceptable balance for families who would prefer work to be set, and those who want to make the most of the snow!
