Note to parents: I understand that it may seem slightly challenging at the moment balancing both work and home schooling and I want you to know that I am here to help and support you in any way that I can. Obviously, in an ideal world, I would love for the children to complete all of the tasks that have been set but I understand that this is not always workable or possible. As a basic requirement, I would ask that the children try to complete all of the Maths and English activities. For the topic activities, the children can pick and choose which activities they complete. Obviously, the more activities that they complete the better, but I don’t want you to feel pressured at home to get these completed if time or work constraints don’t allow for it one week. Hopefully, the topic tasks that have been set are fairly independent activities so that most children should be able to work on them without additional adult support.

Bonjour la classe!

For French we are going to find out about a very famous event that took place yesterday in France.  Le 14 juillet-Fête Nationale, July 14th – National Holiday in France is a bank holiday and normally a day of national celebration with parades, fly pasts, parties and lots of gatherings for special meals and fireworks.  This year it will be very different as the crowds are not allowed to gather and watch all the events.  But it will be broadcast on the television.  So there are 3 video clips, a powerpoint, a drawing activity to do and a quiz. The video clips are in the *Video Centre on the school website. Go to FRENCH: le 14 juillet - Bastille Day: watch the 2020 Parade du 14 juillet, singing  La Marseillaise, the French national anthem; 2019 Fireworks, Eiffel Tower, Paris and why not try to Draw the Eiffel Tower, add a few fireworks.

Bon courage,

Miss Ferguson

Bonjour la classe,

Ça va? How are you?

I hope you enjoyed your first taster of Le Tour de France learning.  Remember this world famous cycle race should have started last Saturday in Nice but because of the Coronavirus pandemic it has been postponed until samedi le 29 août.  The focus of this learning is Le Tour de France and cognate and near cognate learning.  You have a powerpoint, Kim’s Game and a wordsearch activity.

To remind you, there are Tour video clips in the Video Centre: Guide to le Tour de France and also a clip of the Highlights from stage 19 of the 2019 Tour de France.  So much can happen in a bike race.

 Bon courage,                   Madame Ferguson

PS Don’t forget the French clips for you in the Video Centre.  Go to Chidren, select Video Centre and find the FRENCH: Y5 Y6 clips.

Bonjour la classe,

Ça va? How are you?

I hope you are keeping your French up.  You have been learning about “la famille”: you have made your own “arbre généalogique”, you have written a short description in French to describe your family members and have learnt a “forever” question, how to express possession using “de” and vocabulary for “la famille, finishing with cognate and near cognate learning to help you prepare a description about a member of your family.

I hope you will enjoy this next learning.  On Saturday the Tour de France should have started in Nice but because of the Coronavirus pandemic it has been postponed until samedi le 29 août.  The focus of this learning is Le Tour de France and numbers.  You have a powerpoint to remind you about the Tour, Tour video clips in the Video Centre: Guide to Le Tour de France, a French number song and a number matching activity.

Bon courage,                   Madame Ferguson

Bonjour la classe,

Ça va? How are you?

I hope you are keeping your French up.  You have been doing a lot of learning about La Famille.  Your objective last time was to focus on a detailed description of a member of your family, you have also learnt a “forever question”, how to express possession (belongs to) as well as sentence building.  Previously you have written a short description in French to describe your family members and made your own “arbre généalogique”.  As always you could keep refreshing your learning by watching (with permission) the recommended videos.  There have been lots of sound clips to help you learn your new vocabulary.

This week week in recognition of all your hard work and to give you the opportunity to find out how much you have learnt, I have attached a French wordsearch about La Famille. Enjoy this learning.

Bon courage,                  Madame Ferguson

Remember there are lots of space learning for you as I have uploaded some French space clips to the *VIDEO CENTRE: SamSam le superhero de l’Espace/ Le système solaire présenté par les CE2 - CM1(Y4 & Y5 children)/ Paxi – Le système solaire/ Visitez la Station spatiale internationale en deux minutes

* Go to HOME LEARNING, go right down to the bottom and select Video Centre and find the Year 5 & Year 6 video clips.

Bonjour la classe,

Ça va? How are you?

I hope you are keeping your French up.  We are continuing to learn about La Famille.  Your objective last time was to focus on a “forever question”, how to express possession (belongs to) and sentence building.  Previously you have written a short description in French to describe your family members and made your own “arbre généalogique”.  As always keep refreshing your learning by watching (with permission) the recommended videos.  There are lots of sound clips to help you learn your new vocabulary.

This week you will find out about la famille d’Evelyne in this powerpoint.  This session you are learning to use translation skills in order to write a description of a member of your family.  You can listen to the sound clips for support with pronunciation and read the text to spot cognates and near cognates.  Beware of false friends.  You already know a lot about sentence construction in French and noticing the differences.  Enjoy this learning.

Bon courage,                  Madame Ferguson
